The Call of Amos: Seek God and Live

The Vision of Amos

Creating Nonconformity:
Amos revisited

In Conversation with Dr Charles Lee

Dr. Charles Lee is a practising Consultant Plastic Surgeon in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia and worships with his family in one of the Anglican churches in Kota Kinabalu. A life-changing encounter with the Lord Jesus of Nazareth on 11 February, 1995 at 5.30am was the turning point in Charles' life to come to repentance and obedience to bear fruit to God. Throughout his formative teenage years, Luke 13: The Lesson of the Fig Tree and the call to bear fruit to God was personal but Charles chose to go the way of the world until his personal encounter with the Lord in 1995.

On 6 March, 1995 at 6.30am, through a powerful visitation of the Lord, God placed in his heart a fear of the Lord and call to ministry. In 1996 Summer Fruit Ministries [SFM] was founded. The ministry proclaims the prophetic word of the Lord through the vision given to prophet Amos in Chapter 8:1: ‘Behold, a basket of summer fruit’- a call to the Israel of God to repent, seek God and live as judgment was at the door.

In May 1996 during the Festival of Shavuot in Jerusalem, Charles sensed a strong passion to rediscover the Jewish roots of Jesus, His teachings and that of His Apostles. Understanding the Hebraic foundations of the Christian faith became a central vision and ministry of Summer Fruit Ministries.

In July 1997, Charles was challenged by Dr John Haggai in Haggai Institute, Maui, Hawaii to ‘attempt something so great for God that it is doomed to fail unless God be in it’. In Maui, Charles wrote the vision that in July 2001 there will be a meeting of God’s people from the Asia Pacific region to recover the transcendent goal of learning to be a Kingdom disciple-maker and make disciples of all nations.

Focused with a pulsating vision to see every life a changed life, bearing fruit to God through Christ, the Asia Pacific Consultation on Discipleship (pronounced A-P-COD) was conceived as providing a strategic platform to the Asia Pacific nations to address the urgency for authentic discipleship to Jesus, incorporating both Hebraic and Christian perspectives for a biblically based, Christ-centered life in the real world.

In September 1999, Charles attended the 1st International Consultation On Discipleship in Eastbourne, England. The vision of APCOD and the call to prepare the body of Christ in the Asia-Pacific region for the coming famine as proclaimed in Amos 8: 11-12 “….a famine of hearing the words of the LORD” was shared with Asia Pacific Christian leaders.

Faithful and obedient to this heavenly vision and calling, in July 2001, more than 650 Christian leaders from 28 nations gathered in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia for the 1st Asia Pacific Consultation on Discipleship (APCOD 2001) to ‘Bring the Light of the Word of Life into the 21st Century’.

To God be the Glory
